National Association of Scholars Receives Grant to Study College-Level Civics Education

New York, NY – The National Association of Scholars (NAS) announced today that it has received a $45,000 Daniels Fund grant to support its project, “Making Citizens,” which will assess what’s wrong with civics education at the college level and offer practical steps to set it right.

Dr. Peter Wood, president of the NAS, said, “This grant will enable the NAS to examine what American universities are actually doing in the realm of civics. We will survey the extent to which the doctrines of politically correct civics have replaced traditional civics in general education requirements, specialized courses, and extra-curricular experiences. We plan to study four institutions: the University of Wyoming, the University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado State University, and the University of Northern Colorado.”

The National Association of Scholars is an independent membership association of academics and others working to foster intellectual freedom and to sustain the tradition of reasoned scholarship and civil debate in America’s colleges and universities. It was founded in 1987 to defend the core values of liberal education in the Western tradition.

Bill Daniels, a pioneer in cable television known for his kindness and generosity to those in need, established the Daniels Fund to provide grants and scholarships in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. For more information, please visit www.danielsfund.org
