Video: Eugene Genovese Honors NAS

National Association of Scholars

In this video, American historian Eugene Genovese, who received the Jean Kirkpatrick Academic Freedom Award at this year's meeting of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), speaks about the state of academic freedom and standards in American higher education. Bob Paquette recently described him and his late wife Elizabeth Fox-Genovese as "among the most influential and courageous historians of their generation." In the video below, Dr. Genovese honors the NAS's work, along with that of FIRE and ACTA:

Now let me pay tribute to the great work of FIRE, the National Association of Scholars, and the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, which have scored stunning successes in curbing the worst of the totalitarian excesses on our campuses. And they have defended beleaguered professors and students who otherwise would not have had a chance.

These statements come at about 4:10 on the video:

And thank you, Dr. Genovese, for your work over the years defending history from ideology.
