VIDEO: Decolonizing Mathematics

National Association of Scholars

In November Dr. John Armstrong penned an article in The Spectator, "The sinister attempts to ‘decolonise’ mathematics," in which he describes a proposal of new standards for teaching university mathematics that accounts for Europe’s colonial history. Dr Armstrong pushed back against this idea. His initiative won the support of several colleagues, an unusual occurrence for these kinds of political intrusions into the sciences.

This webinar features John Armstrong, a Reader in Financial Mathematics at University College London and a former Executive Director in Operations Technology at Goldman Sachs.

The discussion is hosted by J. Scott Turner, Director of the Diversity in the Sciences Project.
