Episode #51: Rabble Rousing with Lee Jussim

Peter Wood

We’re back! Curriculum Vitae has survived these first few months of the pandemic. Like us, I’m sure you are more than ready to rid yourselves of everyone's annoying houseguest—COVID. This week’s podcast will move your mind away from public health and into public debate.

In today’s episode of Curriculum Vitae we attempt to answer an uncommon question: Why is groupthink bad for the academy? To answer this question we are joined by Lee Jussim, a professor of social psychology at Rutgers University and author of the popular Psychology Today blog, Rabble Rouser.

Professor Jussim begins by explaining America’s current Cultural Revolution, it’s similarities to China’s in the 1960s, and the danger it poses for academics. Intolerance has become the norm, something he describes jovially as "Alliesheimers disease" and as the capable work of "Academic Facebooters."

I encourage you to listen to the full episode, Lee was a wonderful guest, and easily one of the most upbeat for a topic that can be so dreary.
