Tom Wolfe the Keynote Speaker for NAS Conference 2013

Crystal Plum

We are pleased to announce that the keynote speaker for NAS's 2013 conference will be best-selling author and journalist Tom Wolfe.

Tom Wolfe first came to national attention in the 1960s as one of the proponents of the “New Journalism,” in which the writer employs literary techniques to report on actual events in precise and accurate detail. His works in this mode include The Kandy-Kolored Tangerine-Flake Streamline Baby (1965), The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test (1967), and Radical Chic & Mau-Mauing the Flak Catchers (1970).

His book on the growth of America’s space program and the Project Mercury astronauts, The Right Stuff (1975), won the National Book Critics Circle Award and the American Book Award for 1979. His other books include the hugely successful Bonfire of the Vanities (1987), A Man in Full (1998), and he casts his uncannily accurate eye over higher education in I Am Charlotte Simmons (2004). Wolfe’s newest novel, Back to Blood (2012), is set in modern-day Miami.

In 2008, Academic Questions editor-at-large Carol Iannone interviewed Mr. Wolfe about his views on the contemporary university, feminism, and the state of the modern novel. Read the interview: “A Critic in Full: A Conversation with Tom Wolfe” >

To hear Tom Wolfe, remember to save the date for NAS’s 25th anniversary celebration (online registration coming soon):
