About This Event:

For the past eight years, the National Association of Scholars has surveyed what books colleges and universities assign as common reading—often a summer reading selection for incoming freshmen. For many students, this is the only book they will read in common with all their classmates.

NAS Director of Communications David Randall, the author of our reports on these “beach books,” will discuss the institutional structures within colleges and universities that ensure common readings fall within a narrow genre: parochial, contemporary, juvenile, and progressive. Dr. Randall will also make specific recommendations for how to reform college institutions so as to select better common readings.

Register:

This event is free and open to the public, but space is limited. RSVP here to secure your tickets.
