Toolkit and Conference Call on “Free to Speak”

Rachelle Peterson

More than 380 scholars, writers, and concerned citizens have signed NAS’s petition for free speech protections in the Higher Education Act. And earlier this week, we headed to DC and presented our ideas to White House officials and to staff for ten members of Congress.

If you haven’t already, you can read our statement and add your name here.

Now, join us on Friday, May 3rd, as we hold a conference call and release a toolkit for concerned citizens. We’ll have a template letter to members of Congress, a template letter to the White House, and more.

What: Toolkit release and conference call on “Free to Speak: Reforming the Higher Education Act”
When: Friday, May 3, 2:00-3:00 PM Eastern
Where: Call in to 855-369-0450 and use the conference code 52-275-553 #.
RSVP: Click here to RSVP.

We believe that public universities must be held accountable when they violate the First Amendment. And we want private universities at the least to be transparent about their speech and association policies. If Congress isn’t willing to consider these basic reforms, then it shouldn’t reauthorize the Higher Education Act this year.

Join us on Friday as we discuss what we learned from our meetings in DC, and find out what you can do to make free speech a priority in the Higher Education Act.
