Lumina's Degree Profile - Do We Need It?

Ashley Thorne

Joanne Jacobs nods to the Lumina Foundation's new "Degree Qualifications Profile," which is supposed to help colleges have a shared framework to describe what students should be able to do when they graduate. She asks, "But will colleges use the Degree Qualifications Profile?" I commented on her post, "Perhaps a better question is, 'Does American higher education really need a degree qualifications profile?' Peter Wood asks this question and analyzes the Lumina profile at the Chronicle of Higher Education." In his article, posted today on the Innovations blog, Peter says he'll hold out for something "better grounded in science, philosophy, history, and higher education’s own better sense of itself."
