Introducing Teresa R. Manning, Director of the Title IX Project

Peter Wood

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Teresa R. Manning to the full-time position of Director of NAS’s Title IX Project. Teresa earned her J.D. from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1993 after completing her first year of law school at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec. She also has an M.A. in Western European History from Washington University in St. Louis, and her B.A. in Philosophy is from St. Michael’s College at the University of Toronto. Before joining the National Association of Scholars, Teresa served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Office of Population Affairs in the Department of Health and Human Services.

Teresa will lead our research on the current state of Title IX enforcement and due process on American college campuses, culminating in a report to be published next year. She will also draft recommendations for improvements, addressed to Members of Congress, state legislators, and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.

Teresa is an experienced lawyer who brings to NAS a thoughtful approach to writing about campus due process. I am pleased to welcome her to the NAS staff.

- Peter Wood

Here is what Teresa has to say about beginning at NAS:

The National Association of Scholars is one of a few organizations to scrutinize and protest the politicization of American higher education. Because today’s campus is tomorrow’s public square, this politicization has not only inhibited serious learning but has degraded public, intellectual discourse. I’m happy to be part of its efforts to promote true scholarship, to restore open and civil debate, and to uphold the principles of academic freedom and free speech.
