Desperate Attempt at Keeping the College Bubble Inflated

George Leef

Every so often, the College Board puts out a cheerleading paper proclaiming that college is great in many dimensions -- it helps the economy grow, it makes workers earn more, it leads to healthier, happier lives, it inspires better citizenship, and so on. They've recently done it again and, with the evidence that large numbers of students are rethinking the value of college credentials, the new paper has something of a Baghdad Bob character to it. Anyway, in this week's Pope Center Clarion Call, I lodge a number of arguments against the claims in the paper, especially that the case that we have oversold higher education is just a matter of some anecdotes.
