That's the argument that political science professor Robert Weissberg makes in today's Pope Center piece. That runs contrary to the conventional wisdom that a college education makes a person smarter and thus a more productive worker. Weissberg contends that for many students, college just delays the time when they'll have to drop the slovenly habits they've acquired through years in the soft and undemanding world of America's education system.
