Academic Scandal at WSSU

George Leef

This week's Pope Center Clarion Call is by Shira Hedgepeth, formerly employed by Winston-Salem State University, one of the HBCUs in the UNC system. In the article, she tells a disturbing story about the environment at the school—administrators evidently are more concerned with the appearance that students are making academic progress than the reality because government funding is tied to the appearances.

This reminds me of the scandal with the Atlanta public school teachers who changed student answers on tests so the schools would look better—and they'd get bonuses they didn't deserve.
